Early morning on the Great Sand Dunes after a stormy night brings clouds that reflect intense colors from the rising sun.  I had envisaged a photograph like this at the sand dunes for over a year, capturing the the texture of the dunes, the sweeping lines that lead to the Sangre de Cristo mountains, with a brillant sunrise.
Able to take only 3 photographs while the sun hit the mountain, for less than one minute the mountain glowed with a golden brillance at Lake Helene in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
I photographed the patterns of the sand dunes drifting into one another, creating a path to the distant Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
In this photo, Dream Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park reflects Hallett Peak which glows red with the reflected light of the rising sun.
